The Oceanside Police Officers' Association puts together a team to compete each year in the Race Across America (RAAM). June of 2019 was the fourth year for Team Oceanside! The race started on June 15th, 2019 and is the longest endurance bicycle race in the world and is considered the "World's Toughest Bicycle Race."
The race begins at the pier in Oceanside, CA and ends in Annapolis, MD. As a team, we race 3,000 miles, cross 12 states, 88 counties, and 350 communities. We climb over 170,000 feet through the Sierras, Rockies, and Appalachian mountain ranges.
Unlike the world renowned Tour De France, this is not a stage race. We ride 24 hours a day, sleeping an average of 2 hours a night until the race is completed. We hope to finish the race in approximately 6 days. Our team consists of 8 riders and a support crew of 8-10 people. The riders and crew will consist of Police Officers and other public safety professionals, local business owners, family and friends.
Our team's mission is to raise awareness and funds for the Oceanside Police Canine Officers' Association. Police K9's require a wide array of specialized equipment for both training and active duty that enable the officer and canine partner to excel at their tasks and to do so safely.
Additionally, most of the canines are multidisciplinary and require specialized schools and training to maintain these skills which
include but may not be limited to: tracking, narcotics detection, article searching, officer protection and S.K.I.D.D.S. (Swat, K9, Interacting, During, Deployment, School). Police K9's, like other animals, are not immune from medical problems and because of the nature of their work both active and retired K9's may require additional medical care.
Your donations help with these costs and ensure our K9's are healthy, well equipped and well trained as they continue in "Leading the Way" in law enforcement.
Team Oceanside is looking for sponsors to help us accomplish our mission. To race across America, it will cost approximately $35,000. This includes entrance fees, support vehicles, fuel, food, and lodging. After the cost of the race is met, 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Oceanside Police Canine
Officers' Association (OPCOA).
With your help, our goal will be to raise $100,000 to be donated to the OPCOA .
If you are interested in helping Team Oceanside, please make your TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation to the "Oceanside Police Officers' Association" with the memo of "Canine foundation/RAAM"
